Our Story
Dedicated to illuminating Britain's extraordinary past
What began as a shared passion among historians has grown into a respected provider of heritage experiences, connecting thousands with the living history that surrounds us.
Founded on Scholarship, Driven by Passion
Star-ocelot emerged from a simple observation: traditional historical tourism often fails to convey the depth and interconnectedness of Britain's past. Tour buses rush from landmark to landmark, offering dates and names without context, leaving visitors with photographs but little understanding.
Our approach combines rigorous research with engaging presentation
Our founders, a group of Oxford-educated historians and museum professionals, believed there was an appetite for something more substantive. They envisioned experiences that would function as portable seminars, bringing academic rigour to accessible formats.
The response exceeded all expectations. Within our first year, we had served over four hundred guests, and word-of-mouth recommendations led to steady growth. Educational institutions began approaching us for bespoke programmes, and corporate clients discovered the value of historically-informed leadership development.

Access to primary sources informs our interpretive approach
Our Principles
Several core commitments guide everything we do:
Academic Integrity: Every programme is developed with reference to current scholarship. We do not perpetuate myths or simplifications, even when they make for better stories. History is complex, and we honour that complexity.
Accessibility: Academic quality need not mean academic stuffiness. Our guides are chosen not only for their knowledge but for their ability to communicate engagingly. We believe history belongs to everyone, not just specialists.
Sustainability: The heritage sites we visit are precious and finite. We work closely with site managers and conservation bodies to ensure our activities support rather than burden these resources.
"As a secondary school history teacher, I've brought my A-level students on three different programmes now. The improvement in their engagement and essay quality is measurable. They finally understand why this matters."
— Sarah T., Head of History, BristolLooking Forward
The study of history is never complete. New archaeological discoveries, archival research, and evolving interpretive frameworks continuously reshape our understanding. We are committed to remaining at the forefront of this knowledge, updating our programmes to reflect the latest scholarship.
We are also expanding our reach geographically, with planned programmes covering Wales and Northern Ireland, and developing specialist offerings in areas including maritime history, architectural heritage, and the history of science.
Whatever your level of historical knowledge, we invite you to join us in exploring the extraordinary story of these islands.
